We stayed at the Hadley Orient Hotel, which was perfect for our needs. This historical boutique hotel is incredibly central, very reasonably priced and the service was efficient and professional, if not overly-effusive. The room was kept perfectly clean throughout our stay and the earthy amenities featuring sandalwood, rosemary and cinnamon bark were on point – I can’t quite put my finger on it but somehow these scents in the morning just felt so appropriate.

INSIDER TIP: Hobart “city” is really a town, and a sleepy one at that. It definitely isn’t Sydney or Melbourne, where your lodgings’ location can make or break your holiday. Nor is it New York, where your accommodation sets the tone for your entire trip (for example, SoHo = shopping, Hell’s Kitchen = theatre, etc). Chances are if you’re in Tasmania, you’ll have a car and let’s face it, you’re really in the region to check out the amazing gems up and down the south-east coastline. If you’re on a budget, skip the expensive city accommodation (where parking is an added expense – ouch!) and consider checking out your options with AirBnb, especially if you’re staying in town for more than a few nights.
